Sant Cugat no té cap ordenança específica per bicicletes, i per tant hi aplica el Codi de Circulació. Per norma general, la bicicleta és un vehicle més i ha de seguir les mateixes normes que els cotxes.
A la pràctica, la Guardia Urbana sol multar aquelles conductes que posin en risc els vianants (com circular ràpid per zones de vianants en cas d’aglomeració). També retira algunes bicicletes aparcades en llocs on destorben el pas.
Es permet portar un nen fins als set anys en una cadira homologada a la bicicleta. La persona que condueix ha de ser major d'edat.

Depèn sobretot de la qualitat del candau utilitzat. Els millors són els candaus en forma de “U” o les “pitons”. Pesen i són cars (>40 euros), però són ens ÚNICS que garanteixen una certa seguretat. De forma addicional es recomana usar un candau en espiral per assegurar les rodes i el seient.
